Anne Brown’s Almost Healthy Peanut Butter Bars
In remembrance of our neighbor, Anne Brown.

I met Anne Brown at the Lewisburg Farmers Market where she had for sale wonderful tasting Peanut Butter Oat Bars (PBOBs), that she marketed as “mostly healthy”. They were creamy tasting, square and hefty in size and she sold them for one dollar each when they were easily worth twice that amount or more. We also bought Anne’s fresh ginger and garlic and bees wax candles, but Saturday morning farmers markets took on a new meaning for me with the addition of a couple at first, then a few, then a half dozen of Anne’s PBOB’s added to our shopping bags each week. I found that there were other customers of Anne’s who felt similar and came early to farmers market or called ahead to specifically reserve her PBOB’s which were limited in supply. I must admit that I felt guilty at times making off with six of her PBOB’s for $6 when I got to market early myself; and I sometimes paid her $2/each because I thought she was shortchanging herself. At the end of the farmers market season, I was lamenting the long winter ahead without PBOB’s when Anne volunteered her card with number to call if I needed to order and arrange pick up. Anne was a kind soul. With her passing, I rest assured that heaven has a new item on the celestial menu, Anne Brown’s heavenly and mostly healthy Peanut Butter Oat Bars. Thanks Anne!
